It is a wonderful original painting and is signed and dated in the lower right hand corner 1960. It has a heavy thick impasto paint and as you can see from the photos, there is a little bit of pain loss. Her paintings do not appear to come up for sale too often and it is a wonderful original piece. The frame has some scuffs and scratches with age and some paint loss mostly on top. Also, if you look at the photos of the back of the painting, you can see there is a bit of a water stain from moisture, but it does not seem to affect the front of the painting. The painting is sold as is as found so please look at the photos closely. It is quite a large painting measuring approximately 26 1/4 x 47” framed, and the viewable image size is approximately 24 x 44 1/2”. The last photo I took of the painting hanging up and the lighting is a bit different. I just wanted to show a different perspective of the painting and how it looks under different light.
I was able to find a small bio of the artist online ——-Hélène Burnouf-Proteau (1913-2010) was a painter and talented sculptor. She was born in Paris in 1913. In 1939, she arrived in New York as a newlywed on the penultimate voyage of the famous liner, "Normandie." Her husband, Andre Proteau was also a painter and after settling in New York, they started a family while working for Givenchy, Dior and Saint-Laurent in haute-couture. Later in life, they moved to Pelican Bay, Naples, Florida. where she continued her artwork.
