Both volumes are in Very Good condition, with sound, square bindings and clean, unmarked interiors. Light sun fading to the spines is the principal issue. The original slipcases are structurally sound but show noticeable exterior rubbing, scuffing, and edge wear, particularly to the red case.
The 1958 edition of The Koran is bound in yellow cloth with an elaborate multicolored decorative design across the boards and spine. The 1947 Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám features patterned red-and-black cloth, a contrasting black spine title panel, and illustrations. Both volumes retain their matching original slipcases. The lot also includes the Heritage Club’s Sandglass newsletter for The Koran, numbered X:22.
These two Heritage Club editions bring together a foundational religious text and one of the most celebrated works of Persian poetry. The Rubáiyát, attributed to Omar Khayyám and widely known through Edward FitzGerald’s English rendering, explores the passing of time, mortality, and the pleasures of the present. The contrasting decorative bindings and original slipcases make this an attractive matched lot of midcentury fine-press books.
