Original ink and watercolor by Hervé Baille (French, 1896–1974), titled on the reverse “Bain de Soleil à Paris” and dated 1947.
The work depicts a charming Paris rooftop and garden view, with mansard roofs, chimneys, trees, and surrounding apartment buildings. A small figure sunbathing below adds a witty human detail to the scene. The composition is loosely and confidently handled, combining architectural ink linework with soft watercolor washes in blue, green, gray, and warm neutral tones.
Signed lower right Hervé Baille and dated 1947. The reverse is inscribed with the artist’s name, Paris, and the title “Bain de Soleil à Paris.” The backing incorporates a printed map sheet, adding additional period character to the object.
Provenance: from a Manchester, Massachusetts collection.
A decorative and appealing mid-century French work on paper, suitable for collectors of Paris views, French works on paper, architectural subjects, and intimate urban scenes.
