This is another original lithograph by C. Palmer, signed in the lower right, and it's one of the more historically specific pieces in this series. The caption identifies the subject as "Albino 2nd (H.H.B. 3500)," meaning this is a named Holstein cow registered as number 3500 in the Holstein Herd Book. The Holstein-Friesian Association of America was only founded in 1885, so a registration number this low places Albino 2nd among the very first Holsteins ever formally recorded in the United States. That makes this a document of the early American Holstein breed, not just a pretty farm animal print. C. Palmer was the go-to livestock artist for herd book and agricultural publication illustrations of this era, and his stipple lithograph technique captures the breed's characteristic build with real fidelity. The image area is approximately 5.5" x 3.5" on original period paper with cream backing, and this is the same artist and same series as the Holstein and Jersey cow prints also in my shop. Total matted size is 16 x 12 inches in a white mat, ready to frame.
