Beautiful antique edition of Homer’s Odyssey, translated by Alexander Pope and published by John E. Potter and Company of Philadelphia. This undated “Large Type Edition” is believed to date to around 1880 and was edited by W. C. Armstrong, with notes and commentaries not included in many other editions.
The book features an ornate embossed brown leather binding with striking gilt and black detailing. It contains 426 pages and appears complete. The cover and spine show expected wear from age, including rubbing, worn corners, and fraying along the spine ends, but the decorative binding still displays wonderfully.
A hard-to-find 19th-century edition with plenty of character and shelf appeal. Please review all photos closely, as they are part of the description and show the book’s exact condition. It will be carefully wrapped and shipped in a sturdy box.
