Huge 70” Fred Wiesener Brutalist Ceramic Macrame Wall Hanging Art Sculpture 1970 For Sale

Elevate your space with a monumental piece of 1970s studio art history. This 70-inch-tall mixed-media wall hanging is a masterclass in Brutalist texture, hand-sculpted by the celebrated American ceramic artist Fred Wiesener. Fusing heavy earthy materials with highly disciplined textile craft, the sculpture features two magnificent tiers of glazed studio pottery integrated with sweeping, abstract sheet metal shield backings in radiant brass and bronze tones. The centerpiece of the lower medallion features a stunning, deeply cratered cavity populated with a tight formation of organic, mushroom-like rosettes coated in a rich, iron-saturated metallic glaze. The entire structure is suspended from a dense, complexly knotted macramé textile hanger and finished with an elegant drop fringe at its base.An authentic investment piece, the sculpture features Wiesener’s incised artist mark clearly visible on the lower pottery element. Its grand scale makes it an ideal focal point for an entry wall, high-ceiling living space, or mid-century modern interior.Dimensions:Width: 17.0 inHeight: 70.0 inDepth: 2.0 in
