πΈ The coin you will receive is the exact coin shown in the photographs. π Description
This exceptionally small silver diobol was struck at Phokaia in Ionia between 521 and 478 BC, during the Archaic period of Greek coinage. Phokaia was a major maritime power, celebrated for its early seafaring ventures and its role in the expansion of Greek trade across the Mediterranean.
The obverse displays an archaic female head facing left, wearing an earring and a helmet or close-fitting cap. The stylized features and compact format reflect the artistic conventions of early Greek minting, where symbolism and identity took precedence over realism.
The reverse consists of a simple square incuse, a hallmark of early Greek silver issues and a testament to the experimental techniques employed during the formative centuries of coin production.
Weighing just 0.28 grams and measuring only 6.2 mm in diameter, this truly tiny silver coin is a remarkable survivor from the dawn of Western coinage and an impressive testament to ancient craftsmanship at the smallest scale.
