Exceptional early Jim Ison artisan miniature step-back cupboard, handcrafted in 1984 and signed “J.I. - ’84” on the underside. Individually numbered #14 of only 25.
The cupboard features a hand-distressed blue painted finish, scalloped and molded upper cornice, open shelving with plate rack, plank-style backing, shaped sides and feet, and lower cupboard storage. The working cupboard door opens to two interior shelves and is fitted with detailed dark metal strap hinges and hardware. The unfinished back and interior show the individual wood construction.
Jim Ison is a highly regarded American miniature furniture artisan and IGMA Fellow whose work is represented in important miniature collections. This early 1984 example predates many of the Ison pieces encountered on the secondary market and retains its original signed, dated and numbered identification.
Excellent overall condition with the intentionally aged and distressed painted finish characteristic of the piece. Any age-related wear is shown in the photos. Measures approximately 6 3/4” tall x 3 1/2” wide. Please review all photos closely for construction, finish, signature, numbering and condition.
A scarce early numbered example of Jim Ison’s miniature furniture.
