John L. Doyle (American, 1939–2010) — "Ah Haih," 1976 Signed Lithograph, Edition 50/75, Fishy Whale Press
**Description:**
Original hand-pulled lithograph by American artist John L. Doyle (1939–2010), titled *"Ah Haih"* and dated 1976. Pencil-signed "doyle 76" lower right and numbered 50/75 lower center, indicating a limited edition of 75 impressions. Frame 18x20
This work depicts a robed shaman Lakota Sioux elder figure in profile, rendered in Doyle's characteristic dense cross-hatched linework, holding a shepherd's crook and cradling a pair of horned animal skulls, with geometric/tribal patterning across the figure's garment. The piece reflects Doyle's long-standing interest in ethnology and anthropology, which formed the basis of his life's-work print project, *The Great Human Race* — a series of stone lithographs cataloging human cultural and civilizational archetypes, produced in collaboration with printer Roland Poska at Fishy Whale Press in Rockford, Illinois.
Doyle studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and earned his master's at Northern Illinois University; his work is held in institutional collections including the National Gallery of Art. Presented framed under glass with a burgundy mat.
