Vintage Japanese etching by K. Hayashi titled “Chibune, Fishing Village.”
A beautifully detailed view of the historic fishing village of Chibune, Japan, featuring traditional buildings, boats and figures along the waterfront. The work is signed “K. Hayashi” in pencil at lower right, titled “Chibune, Fishing Village” beneath the image, and bears Japanese characters and a red artist seal within the image.
The reverse retains its original H. Takemura & Co., 45 Bentendori, Yokohama, Japan label, providing an especially nice piece of period provenance.
Works by K. Hayashi have appeared at established sale houses including Christie’s and Bonhams.
Overall framed size: approximately 15\" H × 12.5\" W
The artwork is in very good vintage condition overall. There is age-related toning and a faint area of moisture staining near the left edge, photographed for full disclosure. The original wood frame also shows light wear consistent with age. Please examine all photographs, as they form an important part of the condition description.
