【Introduction of the actual train]】In the fall of 1988, an unprecedented train was operated from Europe to Japan.
The name of the train was “Orient Express 1988.
The train departed from Gare de Lyon in Paris on September 7, 1988, and crossed the Eurasian continent from France, West Germany, East Germany, Poland, the Soviet Union, and China to Hong Kong, a distance of over 14,500 km by rail.
From Hong Kong, the train was transported by sea to Kudamatsu, Yamaguchi Prefecture, and after being prepared for operation in Japan, it was operated as a train bound for Tokyo, setting a world record for the longest run by a single train at 15494 km.
The train then operated in Japan for about two months, passing through the yet-to-be-completed Seikan Tunnel to Hokkaido, and became the talk of the town.
