Not a painting or a photograph, every element in botanical artist Larisa Thaney's original botanical pieces is hand-placed with glue, often applied using tweezers and a magnifying glass, on a watercolor or cornhusk ground. Handcrafted in the contemporary artist's Camarillo, California home studio using a specialized form of organic pressed botanical collage rooted in a European art tradition over a century old, her textured, three-dimensional masterpieces are composed entirely of real dried leaves, flowers, plants, and tree bark. Each piece is unique, and the artist’s proprietary drying process locks in and preserves the authentic natural colors and shapes of the flora. No artificial dyes are used. When kept from direct sunlight and extreme moisture, works by this artist are documented to retain their beauty for fifty years or more.
On offer is a captivating , investment-grade piece depicting a serene autumn woodland landscape at dusk. Two graceful weeping trees rise from a richly layered foreground of warm terracotta, amber, and russet pressed leaves forming rolling hills and a still, reflecting stream. Clusters of vivid purple dried flowers anchor the lower composition, their color remarkably vibrant and well-preserved. The canopy of each tree cascades with hundreds of individually placed dried seed pods and tiny
buds, creating an extraordinary sense of movement and depth against a deep charcoal ground. The piece is signed in pencil on the lower mat as “L. Thaney.”
The 8x 10" ( framed) work is in EUC with no apparent tears, holes, fading, staining or other condition issues. Standing ( tabletop) black frame shows very minor, expected wear.
