The books are nevertheless in outstanding condition. The brown leather spines gleam, and there is minimal wear to the marbled boards. The marbled endpapers are still more vibrant. The pages are bright and unmarked, with minimal foxing. The bindings and hinges are very solid. Despite the excisions, they were at least made unobtrusively and with utmost precision, so that there is essentially no evidence they were ever present. Numerous smaller engravings still populate the pages.
