Large antique American handwoven woodsplint gathering or harvest basket with a substantial bentwood carrying handle.
A wonderful old utilitarian basket with anappealing primitive farmhouse look. The basket is constructed from hand-splitwood splints with a woven radial bottom, reinforced wood rim secured with smallnails, and a tall fixed bentwood handle.
Likely dates to the early 20th century,approximately 1900–1930. The specific wood and region of origin are unknown.
