Item Description & Historical Significance
Up for sale is a beautiful, highly collectible 1947 post-WWII / Pre-Vatican II printing of the Liber Usualis featuring Modern Notation. Unlike standard editions that use medieval four-line staffs and square neumes, this rare volume translates traditional Gregorian chants into a familiar standard 5-line musical staff. This makes it an invaluable, practical resource for modern church organists, choir directors, cantors, and traditional Latin Mass communities who want to perform authentic chants without reading ancient notation.
Printed in Belgium by the famous liturgical publisher Desclée & Co. and distributed by J. Fischer & Bro., this volume contains the official Ecclesiastical Imprimatur granted on March 3, 1947, by J. Lecouvet, Vicar General of Tournai. It preserves the complete, unrevised traditional Roman Catholic Liturgy and Gregorian settings exactly as they were celebrated prior to the liturgical reforms of the mid-1960s.
