Lord Elgin Micromatic Vintage Stainless Steel Automatic Watch *SERVICED*: $245.00
Up for sale is a super-clean, mid-1960s Lord Elgin Micromatic 17-jewel automatic men's dress watch. Elgin introduced the "Lord Elgin" wristwatch line in the 1930s, to compete directly with other American and Swiss luxury brands. This is one of my favorite styles of Lord Elgin...The person who bought this watch when it was new in the 1960s chose it from a case or shelf in the jewelry store that it shared with similar watches made by Omega, Longines, and Rolex. They'd have been proud of this watch, for sure.I recently completed a full mechanical service on this watch (September 2026) and it has been running well with great amplitude and keeping good time both on a test bench and on my wrist for a full week. I've included dial-up and dial-down timegrapher photos that I took yesterday (October 5). Aside from an ultrasonic cleaning of the case and back and replacement of the crystal, I've made no cosmetic improvements to the watch. The case, dial, and hands are 100% original.Unlike most vintage watches listed on that run unreliably (if at all) or require costly watchmaker repairs, this watch is completely ready to wear and enjoy from day one. This watch is a "front-loader" (also called a monobloc case). Many vintage watches were designed this way. The case back is part of the case, and does not come off. This allowed the watch to be thinner, and removed the case back seam, leaving one less place for moisture to enter the watch. With this sort of watch, the movement is removed from the case through the front of the watch. The crystal is removed with a special tool, and the stem, which is split, is pulled with another special tool. Usually these watches have lots of scratches on the back from people trying to remove the back. This one is thankfully free of such scratches.Service Work Just Completed: - Full Movement Overhaul: The high-grade Swiss Elgin Caliber 925 automatic movement(based on an A. Schild 1716 ebauche) was completely disassembled, inspected, cleaned, reassembled, and lubricated with fresh Moebius oils and greases, and regulated. It has been thoroughly tested for a full week post-service and is running excellently. It winds and sets easily.
- Regulation: Electronically timed and adjusted on a timegrapher; keeping excellent time (see photos).
- New Parts: Fitted with a brand-new mainspring, a new crystal, and a new-old-stock automatic rotor to ensure excellent winding efficiency.
Condition Details: - Movement: Spectacularly clean, original copper/gilt finished 17-Jewel Elgin 925 mechanism. Features incabloc shock protection and a smooth, full-swing rotor.
- Dial: Beautiful original silver dial with sunburst texturing, featuring applied hour markers and a nifty stylized star logo that I wish Elgin had used on more of their Lord Elgin watches. The dial is in unusually good shape for a watch of this age. I've taken multiple photos of the dial in different lighting from different angles to give an idea of the variations in color the dial displays.
- Case & Case Back: Crisp stainless steel case showing only minor, expected surface wear consistent with age. The inside of the case back is fully signed by the Star Watch Case Company with original case reference 2352 and serial T127308. This watch was well-cared for, and the case has retained it's original clean edges and lugs, along with both the brushed bezel and polished case sides.
- Strap: Outfitted with a 17mm brown leather strap with contrasting stitching that to complement the vintage aesthetic. The band shows slight signs of use from my wearing it during testing.
Please note: This is a vintage timepiece from the and is not water resistant. It should be kept away from water and moisture to protect the mechanism and preserve its vintage dial. Please be sure to have a close look at all the photos, as they are a critical part of the description of this watch.Item Specifics - Brand: Lord Elgin
