A rare copy of H. Kern's 🪷 Sutra in English, ©️ 1901, Hardcover. This is NOT the Great Britain version of 1909, which are still available. This is an eight year earlier and much more scarcer American version, from Burnouf's French, first edition, copy of 1884. This is a scholarly rendition. Which is longer and more detailed than copy's from other author's that have translated The LS. This is NOT a Kuramajiva copy. It's from about 200 years prior. 8.5x5 (approximate) 442 pages, includes The Gaina Sutra, 311 pages, (a Jain Sutra) Total pages - over 750. It's a massive 📖 (3+ lbs.) Contains 27 chapters, unlike the traditional 28. Excludes The Devadatra chapter, which was added many years later. So this version is a closer to the original Palm Leave/Prakit (not Sanskrit) copy. Which is much older. The text is relatively clean, complete and still readable. No inside writing (other than a previous owners name in older light ✏️) No torn, loose or missing pages, the binding is 🆗, but is a little compromised because of the thickness and age of the 📖 Someone did put a few pieces of *tape inside to strengthen the binding, I have not removed, if anything they attempted to strengthen the binding (albeit unprofessionally) but that only tells me that they attempted to care for it. Some mild browning throughout and mustiness due to age. (125 years old) This 📖 once belonged to a well-known and respected Christian scholar.
