This is a rare, early original work by listed American artist Louis Edward Jones (1878–1958), famous for his later landscapes of the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. Dated 1902, this piece represents his early academic period. It features a striking still-life study of a blue, tripod-footed amphora vase, beautifully accented with gold leaf/metallic paint that catches the light perfectly.
It is clearly signed and dated "L. Ed. Jones 1902" in the bottom right corner.
