About Lucien Dasselborne

Lucien Dasselborne (1873–1962) was born in Louvroil, France, near the Belgian border, and spent much of his career working in and around Belgium — a landscape whose medieval towns, quiet canals, and Flemish architectural heritage became the defining subjects of his printmaking practice.

Originally trained in law, Dasselborne turned to art following World War I, quickly establishing himself within the French academic salon exhibition circuit. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français — one of the most prestigious annual exhibitions in France — where he received an Honorable Mention in 1922, and at the Salon de la Société Nationale and the Salon d\'Automne. His contributions to regional European art were recognized by the city of Tournai, Belgium, where a commemorative Hainaut prize was awarded in his honor.

His work was also produced under the pseudonym \"Davril\" — a detail that appears on some impressions from the same period and is now well documented in the collector literature on Paris Etching Society prints.

Dasselborne\'s style is firmly rooted in the French Impressionist tradition — atmospheric, tonal, deeply attentive to the play of light on water and stone. His Bruges subjects in particular have attracted a consistent collector following on both sides of the Atlantic.
