MAX WUNDERLICH TOURTE Violin Bow 29” GERMAN Ornate Frog ENGRAVED Needs Rehair For Sale

Vintage German violin bow stamped MAX WUNDERLICH on one side of the stick and TOURTE on the other.

The bow measures approximately 29 inches long and has an octagonal reddish-brown wooden stick. It features an ornate ebony frog with decorative circular eyes, a mother-of-pearl-style slide, engraved metal fittings, and an engraved metal adjuster/button.

This bow has been in my family for many decades and was kept with an older violin that belonged to my uncle, who studied and performed violin in Shreveport, Louisiana.

The bow is being sold as found and unrestored.

The bow hair is badly deteriorated, with extensive broken and loose hair, and it will need a complete professional rehair before use. The old striped winding/grip area shows age and wear. There are scratches, surface wear, and tarnish/oxidation to the metal fittings consistent with age.

The adjuster turns properly and the frog slides back and forth along the stick when the button is turned. Because the existing hair is badly deteriorated, I have not attempted to bring the bow up to playing tension.

The stick retains visible camber, but I have not had the bow examined by a professional bow maker or luthier. I make no representation regarding exact wood species, metal content, straightness under tension, or any previous repairs. The light-colored tip material and other materials have not been tested or identified.

The bow has not been polished, cleaned, rehaired, or restored.
