Keeping the grit and abrasive material inthe filter and out of the transmission fluid. The CAT filter we chose andtested for this kit is designed for the harshest environments and to filterlarge amounts of oil at a high rate of flow between long service intervals inthe field. The CAT 077-3492 is designed for far more flow and pressure thanan Allison Transmission is able to produce. Allowing it to easily outperformthe OEM and competition. TESTED IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT.
Filtration TestingWe wanted to know how the CAT filter would catch transmission fluidcontamination versus the OEM Allision Filter. The 3 rd party lab testintroduced 30 micron (average transmission debris size) particulates at 1.3GPM, upstream from the filter. The fluid downstream from the filter wasanalyzed to see how much particulate above 30 microns made it past thefilter. 39 minutes into the test, the OEM filter was allowing 55% of particlesabove 30 microns through the filter and back into the transmission. At 77.5minutes, the CAT filter still allowing 0 particles above 30 microns past thefilter.
Dirt Capacity TestingA filter needs to be able to hold the debris it collects over the service life ofthe filter. We wanted to know exactly how many grams of debris each filtercould hold before it gave up and opened the bypass, sending unfiltered fluidback into the transmission. The OEM Allison filter held 4.1 grams of grit andthe CAT filter held 17.7 grams of grit. Proving a 430% increase in holdingcapacity.
