Why a mainspring winder
Winding a mainspring by hand is slow, stressful on the spring, and easy to contaminate with fingerprints or dust. A proper winder protects the spring, speeds up servicing, and gives cleaner results.
A full Bergeon winder often costs around $1000+. Cheap copies around $100 look similar, but the hook usually fails and cannot be replaced. This is the practical middle ground: ready to use, durable, and designed for long-term maintenance.
