From Mark Maggiori:

\"I AM ALWAYS ASTONISHED AND FASCINATED WHEN I STAND AT ABOUT5000 FEET ABOVE SEA LEVEL AND LOOK DOWN AT THE COLORADO RIVER. FROM THE TOP OF THE RED CLIFFS OFCANYONLAND, UTAH, THE SIGHT OF THIS TINY LITTLE STRIPE HAS A MAGICAL ANDMYSTICAL TONE TO IT. IT SEEMS TO BE RUNNING QUIETLY IN SLOW MOTION.\"

ARTIST BIO

\"Mark Maggiori\'s first views of America came through the windshield of a car traveling from New York to San Francisco. That month-long trip, filled with majestic views of the national parks and the timeless West, took place when Mark was just 15 and on vacation from his home in France—but it ignited a lifelong fascination with the West.

Years later in Paris, he enrolled at the famous Académie Julian, where Western greats Ernest L. Blumenschein, Burt Geer Phillips and Joseph Henry Sharp studied before forming the Taos Society of Artists. After formal training in academic drawing, Mark detoured through music with a successful band, along with work in animation, photography and filmmaking—each informing his creativity.

Mark was lured back to the United States by his muse and wife, Petecia Lefawnhawk. Their travels through the West recalled that original road trip, and at 36 he decided to paint Western art. Settling in places like Chloride and Kingman, Arizona, he quickly produced some of the most audacious Western paintings of a new generation—audacious because he was an outsider: a Frenchman with a profoundly unique view of the American cowboy. Within a few years, he became one of the premier Western artists working today.

His work brought solo and group shows, including the 2017 Night of Artists at the Briscoe Western Art Museum, where he won the Sam Houston award. He expanded into plein air painting and spent time on ranches and horseback across New Mexico, Arizona and Wyoming.

Like Henry Farny, another Frenchman drawn to the Southwest, Mark has carved a unique place in Western art—part Frank Tenney Johnson, part Herbert \'Buck\' Dunton, with shades of Tom Ryan and Bill Owen.\"
