Mesquite Jenkins, Tumbleweed — Clarence E. Mulford — Popular Library #104 — First Printing, 1946
A scarce early Popular Library western — catalog number 104 — from the first years of the publisher\'s operation. Clarence E. Mulford, creator of the legendary Hopalong Cassidy, here spotlights Mesquite Jenkins, the devil-may-care protégé of Hopalong, in a hard-riding range war over water and grass at the 3J Spread. Originally published in hardcover by Doubleday in 1932, this Popular Library edition (copyright 1931/32) is one of the earliest paperback appearances of the title.
Features the iconic Fiedler cover art — a striking longhorn skull against a desert sunset with a lone rider — and the distinctive blue-tinted page edges characteristic of early Popular Library printings. Published \"by arrangement with Doubleday & Co., Inc., New York.\"
Condition: Cover shows wear — corner creasing, some soiling, and the typical laminate peeling at edges common to this era of Popular Library. Pages fanned/wavy with age. Text clean and fully legible throughout. Binding intact. A solid reading and display copy of a genuine early paperback collectible.
For fans of vintage western fiction, Hopalong Cassidy, pulp paperback collecting, and early Popular Library issues.
