Gerda Lynggaard and her husband Nikolai founded Monies in 1973. The couple met in jewelry fabrication school and are both classically trained goldsmiths.
The 1990s brought the opening of a boutique in Paris, France, as well as collaborations with fashion houses, such as Chanel and Christian Lacroix. Monies also worked with Donna Karen on several occasions in the 1990s and the early 2000s.
The Monies workshop is currently, at the time of writing, on the waterfront in Copenhagen, Denmark.
