Offered here is a remarkably well-preserved JRC NVA-88 external communications speaker, complete with its original Japan Radio Co., Ltd. factory box.
This is a new old stock example, making it an especially desirable find for a collector or owner assembling a period-correct JRC communications station. The NVA-88 dates from the classic era of Japan Radio equipment and was offered as the matching external speaker for JRC communications equipment, including the highly regarded NRD-525 receiver. Period references also associate the NVA-88 with JRC\'s JST-series equipment, including the JST-135.
The NVA-88 is considerably more than a generic external radio speaker. Its cabinet styling, finish and proportions were specifically designed to complement JRC equipment, making the correct speaker particularly appealing when putting together a complete vintage JRC station.
This example is especially noteworthy because most NVA-88 speakers surviving today are used, often showing scratches, cabinet wear or other evidence of decades of service. Finding one in new condition with its original factory carton is considerably more unusual.
The speaker retains its original hard-wired audio cable and plug. Period specifications identify the NVA-88 as a 4-ohm speaker, with a metal cabinet and approximately 4.3–4.5-inch permanent-magnet dynamic speaker.
