Heritage & History of NPS Shoes:
Founded in 1881 by five local shoemakers as the Northamptonshire Productive Society (NPS) co-operative, the company has preserved traditional British shoemaking for well over a century. NPS is most famous for its deeply intertwined history with Dr. Martens. In 1959, NPS created the very first air-cushioned sole prototype, leading to a 35-year partnership where they manufactured the original "Dr. Martens by Solovair" boots under license. While production for Dr. Martens eventually moved, NPS saved its historic factory and continues to use the exact same traditional machinery, lasts, and Goodyear-welting techniques today to produce footwear under their premium NPS Solovair line.
