This is a New in Box Wenger Matterhorn Plus, U.S. catalog 16996. Nine-layer 85 mm Swiss Army knife made in Delémont. Red Cellidor scales, Swiss shield. Original Wenger gift box with blue flocked tray. Box UPC 0 46778 17559 5. Old Champaign Surplus tags still on the lid. Opened only for these photos — the tools were not all pulled out.

Period catalog art is shown so you can see the tool set without forcing every layer. That scan is from a 1991 Wenger brochure. It is not a photo of this exact knife open.

This is the discontinued Plus with the ruler / compass layer. It is not the later whistle Matterhorn and not the Matterhorn Original.

Condition Notes

New in box. Knife sits in the original tray. Scales are clean. Layers look unused. Box has old store stickers, a yellow safety-screwdriver callout, and normal shelf wear on the lid. Tools were not all opened for photos — use the 1991 catalog plate for the layout. Sold as a complete boxed Matterhorn Plus.

Description & History

Wenger was the other official Swiss Army maker, in Delémont, from 1908 until Victorinox bought the company in 2005. After the sale the Wenger name faded and a short list of patterns continued as Victorinox Delémont. The big nine-layer Matterhorn Plus did not stay in the line.

The Plus is the compass version. Matterhorn Original dropped the ruler / compass and changed a blade. A later knife reused the Matterhorn name and added a whistle — that is a different tool set. This box and UPC are the old Plus.

What collectors want on these is the unused Delémont knife still in the Wenger gift box. That is what is here.
