Northrop Gamma 2EC 8x10 Vintage Aircraft Photo NC13760
Sold to USSR 1934
Aitken Collection Print, Only One Sold to the USSRDESCRIPTIONThis 8x10 photograph documents Northrop Gamma 2EC NC13760, construction number 47, built at Northrop's Inglewood, California plant as part of a small export batch that went almost entirely to China's military... this particular airframe was the one sold to the Soviet Union in 1934 instead. The Gamma was Jack Northrop's landmark all-metal, multicellular stressed-skin design, the same basic type that carried Frank Hawks to a series of transcontinental speed records and flew Lincoln Ellsworth across Antarctica as the "Polar Star." NC13760 is pictured on the ramp inside a hangar, engine cowled and propeller turning, with a Wright Aeronautical builder's plate for the Cyclone engine mounted on the cowl and a crewman climbing into the aft cockpit hatch of its closed cabin. This print comes from the Aitken Collection and carries a company archival stamp from McDonnell Douglas Corporation's St. Louis photo library, meaning it was printed from the original period negative decades after the photograph was taken rather than pulled as a period press print. Every effort is made for fact checking and provenance including background research through news and historical archives. If any listing is incorrect in any way and you're unsatisfied with the item, please connect with me and I'll make it right. Orders placed before Noon CDT will ship same day Ground Advantage with tracking so you know exactly when it will arrive. Returns accepted on all items exceeding $25 in cost. Rigid, professional packaging on all shipments sealed and protected in acid free protectors. Shipping is free and already built into the price, so the BIN price is exactly what you pay, no surprise shipping costs at checkout.CONDITIONClean, sharp 8x10 photographic print with strong contrast throughout. Image area is bright with no significant fading. Corners are square with only light handling wear, no creases through the image. A faint MDC St. Louis archival stamp and a period mailing stamp to the original collector are present on the reverse, consistent with the rest of this binder lot. Very good to excellent overall for a company archival reprint of this age.
