The stirring carol, O Come, All Ye Faithful was the inspiration for this medal which was designed by Ernest Schroeder and sculptured by T. James Ferrell. The obverse shows the three wise men bearing their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Above glows the Star of Bethlehem which led them to the newborn Christ. The reverse depicts the words \"Joyful and Triumphant\" encircled by a host of angels.
O Come, All Ye Faithful was originally sung in Latin. In 1841 Frederick Oakeley translated it into English. John Reading, a 17th century English organist is generally credited with composing the music. However, some authorities fell the music may have been of Italian or Portuguese origin. Today it is one of the best known and universally sung Christmas carols.
