Off-White Adobe Kiva Corner Oven - Artisan Dollhouse Miniature For Sale

This listing is for a wonderful adobe-look kiva corner oven.I believe it is made of plaster (possibly some type of heavy resin, but my guess is plaster). I also believe it was handcrafted rather than commercially manufactured. Given the estate I received it from, I believe it was made in the late 1980s to mid-1990s.

It is designed to fit into a corner of a room. The entire piece is painted in a warm ivory color to resemble adobe. It has a large front opening and two step sections on each side of the firebox. These steps would be perfect for placing pottery or other appropriate décor. There is also a flat space above the opening, also good for placing pots or cookware, etc. There is a tall chimney that extends from the center upwards towards the ceiling.

This wonderful vintage piece would beperfect for almost any Southwestern kitchen or cottage, and would be appropriate across a wide range of time periods.

A kiva fireplace is a traditional, rounded Southwesternhearth with a beehive shape, a smooth plastered finish, and a compact opening.Rooted in Indigenous Pueblo architecture, modern versions use a shallow fireboxthat burns wood or gas, serving as both a source of heat and a distinctarchitectural feature. They were inspired by the ceremonial kivas of theAncestral Pueblo people. Domestic kiva fireplaces became a staple inSouthwestern and Pueblo Revival architecture, especially in New Mexico. They were built with asemi-circular or beehive shape, traditionally made of adobe or modern stuccoed masonry.They were often tucked into the corner of a room.

NOTE:There is some crazing in the paint surface: See photos (you may need to zoom in to see the details); I am not sure if this has happened due to age or whether this was deliberately made as part of the realism of the oven.

NOTE: This is a heavy piece (made of plaster), thus the shipping is more expensive than your average miniature.
