This piece is an original reverse glass painting done in the traditional Croatian (Yugoslav) Naive Art style. It features a clear signature in the bottom right corner by the artist Horvat M. and is dated 1966.🎨 Artistic Style and Technique

The Technique: In reverse glass painting (known as Hinterglasmalerei or verre églomisé), the artist applies oil paints directly to the back of a pane of glass. Because the viewer looks at the painting through the front of the glass, the process must be done entirely in reverse—fine details, outlines, and signatures are painted first, while the background gradients and skies are layered on last.
The Style: This painting is a quintessential example of mid-20th-century Yugoslav Naive Art, a movement heavily popularized by the Hlebine School in Croatia. It captures idealized, rustic, and slightly surreal depictions of ordinary rural life, marked by characteristic thatched-roof whitewashed houses, stylized bare winter trees, and winding fences.
