USS PCS-1405 was commissioned in 1944 as a Patrol Craft Sweeper and served during the final years of World War II. Following Navy service, she was transferred to the U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey in 1946 and renamed Bowie, continuing her service as a survey vessel.
