PONY TRAILS IN WYOMING: HOOFPRINTS OF A COWBOY AND U.S. RANGER — JOHN K. ROLLINSON — 1941 FIRST EDITION, SIGNED & INSCRIBED
Caldwell, Idaho: The Caxton Printers, Ltd., 1941. First edition. Illustrated with photographs. Original gray patterned cloth with red and gilt lettering and decoration.
A desirable association copy of Rollinson’s firsthand memoir of cowboy life and the early American West, recounting his experiences riding the Wyoming ranges during the 1890s and his later work as a U.S. Ranger. Edited and arranged by E. A. Brininstool.
Inscribed and signed by the author on the front free endpaper, dated March 21, 1941: “To My friends Armin and Ruth Schreiber — Along with all Best Wishes. From John K. Rollinson.” Particularly appealing as an early, year-of-publication presentation inscription.
Accompanied by scarce contemporary ephemera, including an original Pony Trails in Wyoming promotional bookmark signed in print “J. K. Rollinson,” together with two period newspaper clippings concerning Rollinson and the publication of the book, one headed “Buffalo Bill Inspired Him; Now He’s Author.”
A well-preserved copy with light shelf wear and age toning, minor rubbing at extremities, and clean, attractive cloth. Binding remains sound and contents generally clean. No dust jacket. Approximately Very Good to Very Good+ condition.
An appealing signed first edition with unusually substantial contemporary material, particularly suitable for a collection of Wyoming, cowboy, ranching, Western Americana, or U.S. Forest/Ranger history.
