Ilyushin Il-96-300, registered RF-96007, is likely part of Russia\'s Special Flight Squadron (SLO), the government detachment responsible for transporting senior Russian officials, as the \"RF\" registration prefix denotes Russian state and military aircraft rather than commercial operations. The Il-96, now used primarily as Russia\'s presidential and VIP transport aircraft under the Il-96-300PU designation, replaced its role as a mainstream Aeroflot widebody after the type\'s civilian production wound down in the 2000s. As part of Russia\'s government transport fleet, this aircraft reflects the country\'s continued reliance on domestically produced aircraft for sensitive state travel, particularly given post-2022 sanctions limiting access to Western aircraft.
