Vintage Pioneer SR-303 Stereo Reverberation Amplifier – Serviced, Adjusted & Tested
Offered here is a Pioneer SR-303 stereo reverberation amplifier in excellent working condition.
The SR-303 is an all-electronic reverberation processor using a BBD (Bucket Brigade Device) analog delay system, rather than the mechanical spring-type reverb used in many earlier units. It offers adjustable reverberation depth and delay time, plus two effect modes, making it a great addition to a vintage stereo system or audio setup. Pioneer specified a frequency response of 5Hz–70kHz, less than 0.05% THD, a 90 dB S/N ratio, and reverberation times up to approximately 3 seconds depending on mode.
Service performed includes:
- Thorough exterior cleaning of the faceplate, top, bottom, and rear panels
- Switches, selectors and potentiometers cleaned and treated with DeoxIT
- RCA input and output connectors cleaned with appropriate contact-cleaning brushes
- Power-supply electrolytic capacitors individually inspected
- Six electrolytic capacitors in the power-supply section replaced for longevity
- Audio-path electrolytic capacitors checked in circuit and found to test properly
- Cold or questionable solder joints inspected and reflowed where needed
- 20 kHz reference adjusted at TP1
- VR3 adjustment performed according to the Pioneer service procedure using a 400 Hz / 150 mV test signal and monitoring TP2 for proper waveform symmetry
- Final operational testing completed
- 24-hour burn-in test successfully completed
All front-panel controls, effect functions, and indicators operate properly.
The unit performs very well, and the listing video clearly demonstrates the reverb effect. The video shows the actual unit for sale operating and demonstrates the audible effect of the reverberation circuitry.
