This fabulous late 40’s Brexton set is known as the ‘Model 404’, and caters for 4 persons.
This particular example was produced at a time when Brexton had just started making picnic sets after the end of WW2, and the quality of its products was at its very best.
It’s interesting to note the little factory ‘spares’ packet, with a black and white photo of this set on the front cover, showing the layout of the interior with its components arranged in their correct positions, just like when it was supplied new…and just as you see it today!
The set retains its original factory-supplied 'Adams' bone china cups, saucers, and plates, although one of its original saucers was missing, so it has been replaced by another similar-period saucer.
This set was manufactured at a time when Brexton, and other picnic set makers of this era, were starting to introduce some plastic components into their picnic sets, but retained bone china as the preferred material for cups, saucers and plates. Sadly, this situation didn't last long, and the more desirable bone china components were soon replaced by plastic 'Bandalasta' items, in order to reduce the cost of producing these sets in the post war period.
You will note that the sandwich/food boxes are the very early type, with highly polished nickel plated clip on lids, from the period before Brexton started to replace these boxes with all-plastic Bandalasta variants in the early 1950's.
This 'Model 404' picnic set features its original pair of Thermos vacuum flasks, with highly polished nickel plated shoulders, and drinking cap-cups.
The outer case is in excellent condition, and is finished in a mottled brown leathercloth, with a cream interior. The set even retains its original key!
Everything else in this set is original, and it is presented just as it was when it left the Brexton factory, not long after WW2 had finished.

The condition of this set is simply outstanding, and a rare survivor of a bygone age. Thankfully, it’s still ready to be used whenever or wherever the mood takes you, or better still, why not pop it in the boot or rear rack of your veteran, vintage, classic car, or even your modern family vehicle, and enjoy the very best of stylish posh picnics!
