The Khaen (Thai: ΰΉΰΈΰΈ) is a traditional free-reed mouth organ originating from Laos and widely celebrated in Thailand's Isan region. By blowing air through a hardwood windchest connected to precisely tuned bamboo pipes, players can produce warm, layered, and continuous harmonies. - DO NOT PICK THE WAX: The black material sealing the bamboo pipes to the hardwood is essential for keeping the instrument airtight. It is not dirt or packing material! Please do not press hard on it or attempt to remove it.
- Acclimation is Required:Upon arrival, keep the box sealed at room temperature for 24 hours. Once opened, let the instrument rest for an additional 12β24 hours before playing to allow it to adjust to your local climate.
- Avoid Extreme Temperatures: As a natural bamboo instrument, never store your Khaen near radiators, heating/air conditioning vents, or in direct sunlight.
