RARE Antique German 800 Silver Powdered Sugar Sifter Spoon Gilt Bowl 7 7/8\" For Sale

Rare and elegant Antique German silver (800 standard silver ) sugar sifter spoon or sifter ladle with a superb openwork/pierced bowl, probably late 19th century. This type of spoon was primarily intended tosprinkle powdered sugar over fruit (most notably strawberries and cream), puddings, and pastries. It can also be used for serving berries, and the bowl piercings allow juice to drain away while the deep, ladle-like bowl helps scoop the fruit.It has a nice substantial thickness to the silver and weighs approximately 78 grams (2.5 troy oz). The detail pattern on this piece is quite wonderful and is more elegant than most silver sifters available on the market. I do hope my photos capture the elegance of this piece. I have not previously seen this pattern, so it might be a custom piece. This elegant 7 7/8” long sifter spoon has a handle decorated with a raised scene of a classical building with Corinthian columns with urns on top of the columns. It also has a beautiful gilt bowl lavishly pierced with a flower and scroll design. This design is further enhanced by the addition of lines of engraving which accent each of the swirls and flowers. The back of the handle and the back of the bowl also have very fine decoration. It is marked on the inside bowl edge with a crescent, crown, and 800 in a rectangle. The 800 silver standard was used in many European countries and indicates this piece is 80% silver compared to the sterling standard which is 92.5% silver. This should not be confused with items marked with the words \"German Silver\" which is just a metal alloy that looks like silver and has no actual silver content. Condition is excellent with crisp detail to the pattern, fine engraving and the gilt is very nice on the bowl.
