This unusually small example features the colorful Indian Rifle graphic on the front with “Indian Rifle Gunpowder – Hazard Powder Company – New York U.S.A.” The reverse carries the oval “Hazard’s Gunpowder – FFFG – New York” marking.
The miniature size is particularly noteworthy. Period records document Hazard Indian Rifle powder being marketed in canisters, including multiple standard retail capacities. An 1857 Hazard advertisement lists Indian Rifle among the company\'s established powders, while a 1908 government price schedule lists Indian Rifle in 1-pound, ½-pound and ¼-pound oval canisters.
At only approximately 3\" tall, this example is dramatically smaller than typical Hazard powder canisters and was identified in the collection as a rare sample-size tin.
The front retains excellent visual appeal for its age, with the colorful Native American rifleman illustration, red background and company identification remaining clearly visible. The reverse FFFG label is also remarkably legible.
