Up for sale is this vintage or antique impressionist landscape painting on canvas board, attributed to artist Robert W. Harner on the basis of its frame placard. Please excuse any glare in the photos. The scene depicts a colorful coastal or lakeside landscape with trees, flowering vegetation, water, and distant landforms, rendered with loose, textured brushwork and an impressionistic palette. The painting is housed in an old gold-finished wooden frame which appears to be original to the piece. The exterior frame measures approximately 10 5/8 inches by 13 5/8 inches. The canvas board measures approximately 9 inches by 12 inches. Unpacked, the framed painting weighs 15.4 ounces. This attractive painting would make a nice addition to a collection of vintage impressionist or landscape art.Identification
The painting is unsigned on both the front and reverse. A metal placard attached to the frame reads “Robert W. Harner,” as shown, and the work is attributed to that artist on the basis of the placard. Biographical information about Robert W. Harner was not located. The painting appears to be vintage and may be antique, but the exact age is not known.Condition
The painting displays nicely overall but shows age and use. The painted surface has light soiling and some fine crackle or craquelure, concentrated mainly toward the center of the composition. The vintage gold-finished wooden frame has some finish loss and flaking. The original brown paper backing on the reverse has largely been torn away, with remnants remaining around the edges, and the back of the canvas board has scattered stains, as shown.
