WHY COLLECTORS WANT THIS ONERCA Victor\'s Treasury of Immortal Performances was the series that rescued the great pre-war 78 sets and put them onto LP, and for many listeners it was the only way to hear the artists who had defined a piece before the microphone age ended. The Second Concerto is the Rachmaninoff work that everybody knows, and hearing it in a historic Treasury transfer is a very different experience from a modern stereo recording: less bloom, far more character, and phrasing that is unmistakably of its time. These red-label RCA reissues were pressed in quantity but were played hard and rarely survive in decent shape with their jackets intact, so clean playable copies still move. Please confirm the exact performers and coupling from the jacket and label photos rather than from my summary.
