Rare is an overused/overhyped word in the collector realm. Here is an extremely rare antique baseball item.
This is an early 1900s(circa 1905-1908) 30\" New York Giants porcelain baseball doll. I was informed years ago that it is a depiction of HOFer Christy Mathewson. There were also similar dolls created depicting Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner; a total of 10 dolls TOTAL are known to exist.
All of the known dolls measure 24\"; this is as far as I can tell through my research the only 30\" version known to exist.
That being said, the doll is in need of restoration as you can see in the pictures. Uniform is missing the \"Y\" in NY, and has staining, but is complete. The left hand is missing. There is flaking to the surface of the doll\'s face, and cracks to the head. The shoes are present, but have deteriorated.
I have had this doll in my collection for 30+ years with the intention of restoring it. Once restored, it is easily a 4 figure item.
