Overview:

This is a magnificent late 19th-century Gilded Age Louis XV style revival white porcelain elephant clock, featuring finely cast ormolu (gilt-bronze) accents and an exquisite canopy of delicate, hand-painted soft-paste porcelain flowers. The beautifully sculpted elephant features an upward-pointing trunk, traditionally celebrated as a universal symbol of good luck, success, and prosperity. This highly luxurious statement piece was originally imported and sold by the elite Manhattan retailer Davis Collamore & Co., a premier competitor to Tiffany & Co. during the late 1800s.

Movement Details:

The mechanical movement is stamped "France" and boasts a high-quality 13-jewel mechanism. While the movement plate is unsigned by a specific maker, the jewel count indicates a premium, precise French horological build. It’s currently running very strong! However, the last date of service is unknown and it should be completed before regular use, because of this, running condition cannot be guaranteed. Replacement key included.

Condition Report:

Considering its age and highly delicate construction, the clock presents beautifully. The rear tusk has a clean break/damage as shown in the photographs. As is entirely expected with historic soft-paste porcelain floral mounts, a few individual flowers are missing or exhibit minor petal chips. Overall, this remains a rare, highly collectible example of Gilded Age decorative art in very nice antique condition.
