Rare and highly unusual 9/11 memorial sculpture created by renowned Portuguese artist Augusto Cid and dated 2001.
This striking metal sculpture depicts the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in an abstract modernist design and is mounted on a polished stone base. The piece includes its original presentation case and bears the artist’s engraved signature and date.
The Portuguese inscription translates to:
“In memory of the victims of the attacks in New York and Washington. September 11, 2001.”
Research indicates Augusto Cid was the creator of Lisbon’s well-known September 11 Memorial, unveiled shortly after the attacks. This sculpture appears to be a commemorative presentation piece related to that historic memorial effort.
