Beautiful and very rare early type Japanese Nabeshima Dantsu, cotton carpet .Excellent example of unique Japanese carpet industry, can be used as it is in a good shape. <ZS15>Age: 19th - early 20th cLittle known outside of Japan, thiscarpets were always reserved for a wealthysociety of Samurai Lords or well to do merchants in early days. Traditionally carpets were made of same size as tatami mats and were often displayed in treasured tea rooms ormeeting halls of the elite. NabeshimaDantsu carpets were made from cotton threads and became known for its subtle beauty and softness and also tolerance to high humidity conditions.
Nabeshima Dantsu was invented by a woman who was moved by the beauty of Chinese textiles after nearly 30 years of trial and error.
