Practical & Real-World Mathematics
Ray's Arithmetic uses practical problems to help students understand how mathematics applies to everyday situations. Students learn not only how to calculate an answer, but also how to determine which mathematical operation or method should be used to solve a problem.
This approach encourages students to think carefully, reason through problems, and apply what they have learned.
Strong Mental Math Skills
The curriculum incorporates both oral and written exercises to strengthen mental calculation and number sense. Regular practice helps students develop greater computational fluency while reinforcing their understanding of arithmetic concepts.
Systematic Learning Progression
Each level builds on previously learned concepts, allowing students to develop their skills step by step. The progression moves from basic arithmetic foundations toward more advanced applications while emphasizing understanding along the way.
A Timeless Approach to Mathematics
Originally published in the late nineteenth century and used by generations of American students, Ray's Arithmetics offers a traditional, systematic approach to arithmetic instruction.
The curriculum emphasizes mathematical understanding, reasoning, and mental discipline rather than relying solely on rote memorization.
