Beautiful antique illustrated volume of the works of Robert Burns, featuring an ornate Victorian-era decorative cloth binding with elaborate gilt, black, and red detailing.
The front cover is especially attractive, with “BURNS” prominently displayed in gilt along with “ILLUSTRATED,” floral ornamentation, and a lyre design. The spine is also decorated and identifies the publisher as Routledge.
Inside are numerous period illustrations accompanying the works of Scottish poet Robert Burns, including full-page engravings such as “Halloween” and “The Cotter’s Saturday Night.”
Please note: the original title/copyright page is missing, so the exact publication year and edition cannot be confirmed from this copy.
This is a genuine antique book in poor/fair condition and being sold primarily as a collectible/display copy. The binding shows substantial age-related wear, including heavy spine wear and separation, exposed binding material, fraying at the corners and spine ends, rubbing and staining to the boards, looseness/separation within the text block, age toning, and previous-owner writing. Please review all photographs carefully for condition.
Despite the condition, the elaborate Victorian binding retains considerable visual appeal and would make an attractive addition to a collection of antique poetry, Robert Burns, Scottish literature, Victorian books, or decorative bindings.
