Hip-hop and punk rock is brother and sister; we don\'t give a f*ck; we say what we wanna say and we dress how we wanna dress. Now it\'s all about likes and views and chart positions. It\'s all industry-driven rather than creatively driven, and that\'s what\'s really missing right now--DMC
So, this might be the most punk rock rap tee available on the market at the moment--and, as you can see, it\'s dope as all get-out. What we have here is what we call at casa de slim punk a \"total fan\" tee--meaning that it doesn\'t promote a particular album or tour: just the band itself; and Run-DMC was one hell of a band. Shell-toed shoes, breakbeats, samples and funky ass loops--pure analogue punk ala Steve Albini. I won\'t get too deep into it here because I wish neither to overstate the obvious, nor to reiterate what\'s already well-documented (see the concomitant Beastie Boys listing for the whole Rick Rubin crossover). But Run-DMC were about as \"punk\" as hip-hop could possibly get--and, again, the embryonic filiations are so intertwined that you may as well as try to separate the cotton from the candy. It\'s simply undoable, and both forms have always been more about a common ethos than any particular \"sound\" of music. And so, here we have something rarely-seen at SPV: a \"made-worn\" work. Honestly, I typically don\'t like made-worns, simply because they often seem contrived and overdone. Not the case here. This is a designer piece: so well put together that no one would suspect that it was put together at all. Single stitched all around, it\'s got some subtle embellishments that make it one of a kind (see pics for the funky stitching \"reinforcing\" the sleeves to the body). All of the \"imperfections\" are intentional: every hole, the fraying on the sleeves, etc., but none of it feels inorganic, and it\'s going cheap. Such a legendary band. But for Run-DMC, an outfit as unpunk as Aerosmith would never have gotten its tired ass act back onto the Top 40 charts (whatever you make of that). Legendarily dope.
