Up for sale is this original painting entitled “Strawberry Surprise” by California artist Sandy Delehanty. Please excuse any glare in the photos. This playful still life depicts an assortment of chocolate-covered confections in white paper cups, with a bright red strawberry providing a vivid focal point. The composition has a bold, graphic quality with strongly defined shapes and rich color. The painting appears to be oil on stretched canvas. The canvas edges wrap around the wooden stretchers and are painted a coppery color, giving the piece a finished appearance without a separate frame. The painting measures approximately 17 7/8 inches by 23 7/8 inches and approximately 1 1/2 inches deep, excluding the hanging wire and its hardware. Unpacked, it weighs 2 pounds 11.8 ounces. The painting is by the California artist, Sandy Delehanty. The reverse stretcher is titled, “STRAWBERRY SURPRISE.\" Sandy Delehanty is a California artist who studied at California State University, Chico, and has exhibited widely in the Sacramento area and elsewhere in juried, gallery, and museum shows. According to her artist statement, she has cited Wayne Thiebaud’s woodcuts and screen prints, Toulouse-Lautrec posters, and WPA-era travel posters among her influences, particularly for their bold, graphic qualities. She is known for expressive color and strong design, and holds Master Signature Status with American Women Artists as well as Signature Status with the American Watercolor Society, Watercolor West, and the California Watercolor Association. The painting is undated, and its exact age is not known.Condition
